On January 13 and 14th 2012, Kampala vibrated to the rhythm of Breaking Free!, A show organized by the Alliançe française de Kampala and the Goethe-Zentrum Kampala in the 2011 Elysée Fund (Franco-German Project Support), with support of the embassies of France and Germany, Orange in collaboration with Break-dance Project Uganda Association.

Breaking Free! Is the story of liberation, a struggle of individuals against convention, against their past, against the various obstacles that life holds.
This original project, celebrating the meeting of cultures, allowed nine different Ugandan dancers of different background to participate in the creative process of the show, under the direction of the young German choreographer (also dancer) Sebastian Kim Jaekwon. DJ Sinbad, a French DJ living in London, composed the music after many sessions with the artists led them to mix effectively despite their different influences and tastes. The backdrop of the stage, representing an urban landscape was created specifically for the show by fashion designer Xenson Uganda.

The result of these two weeks of intensive work was a hybrid show, mixing traditional dance, contemporary, break-dance and hip hop theatre, games on the rhythms and music. The first performance at the Sharing Youth Centre in Nsambya was attended by about 1,000 spectators in an electrifying atmosphere. The second night, the show was sold out at the National Theatre!

The dancers who already feel they have participated in a unique experience that exceeded far beyond their expectations, plan to continue the adventure and take the show abroad.
