Ebola virus - French effort (October 8, 2014)

Laurent Fabius has appointed Christine Fages Ambassador, Coordinator of the interministerial Ebola taskforce.

France is intensifying its efforts to respond to the crisis:

  • at bilateral level, our aid is being concentrated, at the international community’s request, in Guinea. An Ebola treatment centre, which the President decided to set up, will soon be added to this;
  • with its multilateral contributions, French aid amounts to more than €70 million. We have taken many initiatives to increase the international response to the epidemic, in conjunction with our European partners and the international organizations.

The center in Guinea will be managed by the French Red Cross with significant support from the government (Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Defense and Interior), notably through the provision of health workers and a medical evacuation system. The facility will have 50 beds and a biomedical analysis laboratory set up by the Pasteur Institute as part of the project entrusted to the National Alliance for Life Sciences and Healthcare

In solidarity with the countries affected by the epidemic, the French Government is mobilizing its efforts in the international fight against this threat to global public health. President Alpha Condé, who was received by President Hollande on Monday, reaffirmed how much he appreciated France’s support.
