General Philippe Montocchio meets President Yoweri Museveni
On his maiden trip to Uganda since assuming office last August, General Philippe Montocchio, commander of the French forces deployed in Djibouti (COMFOR), accompanied by Her Excellency Sophie Makame, Ambassador of France to Uganda, and Lt. Col. Georges Jacono, Defence Attaché at the Embassy of France in Uganda, was granted audience by His Excellency Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda.
The French military delegation that comprised Col. Jean Laurentin, COMFOR Chief of staff, and Col. Jean-Bruno Despouys, joint chief of staff of the 5th overseas regiment, had a lengthy discussion on regional security and Franco-Ugandan cooperation.
General Philippe Montocchio briefed the President on the French military presence in Africa, especially the French forces in Djibouti, their mission and strength. On his part, President Museveni expressed his desire to enhance the cooperation between the UPDF and the French Army.
