In their speeches, the Ambassadors of France and Germany underscored the importance of learning foreign languages, making a case for the vibrancy of the Franco-German friendship. At the time when we commemorate the centenary anniversary of the first world war, the inauguration of this building was indeed an opportunity to recall the strides made by the two neighbours since the last century : an exemplary reconciliation as the Prime Minister pointed out.

The Ambassador of France, who was happy to inaugurate the new building after several attempts made in the last few months at identifying a suitable site for new learners, in particular emphasized the dedication of the directors of the two centres. She indicated how much learning French was an asset in Uganda, a country neighbouring the biggest francophone country in the World, the DRC, and member of the East African Community (EAC) for which French has been proposed as one of the official languages besides English and Kiswahili. French, a language spoken by more than 274 000 people in 77 countries also offers a chance to access higher education in France where each year nearly 300 000 foreign students are admitted, making France the 3rd most popular destination for foreign students.
