The “Africa 2016 meetings” held in Paris from 22nd to 23rd September 2016 registered over 2347 visitors, 3765 business meetings and some 20 conferences and workshops. It was a major Franco-African economic diplomacy event organised by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and that of Economy and Finance.

The objective of this gathering was on the one hand to promote the role of France as an economic partner of Africa and, on the other hand, to develop a network of partnerships and trade between public and private economic players from Africa and France.

This first edition was marked by the presence of numerous distinguished personalities such as Jean-Marc Ayrault, French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Daniel Kablan Dunkan, Ivorian Prime Minister, Amadou Ba, Senegalese Minister of Economy and Finance, Cina Lawson, Togolese Minister of Posts and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Moroccan Minister of Industry, Commerce, Investment and Digital Economy, to mention but a few.

From the Africa 2016 meetings, participants were able to appreciate the quality of the discussions and the diversity of the subjects addressed: from digital economy to cultural economy, multiple facets of the 21st century economy were openly discussed.

The success of the Africa 2016 meetings sets the stage for the much awaited Africa-France summit on peace and security in Bamako in January 2017. The summit will bring together President François Hollande, 53 African heads of State and Government, the UN Secretary General, World Bank Director, African Development Bank Director, Presidents of the AU Commission and EU Commission, among others.

Under the banner “Economic and human ties between Africa and France for a shared future” the Africa 2016 meetings are already promising to become a significant yearly event for companies who are aware of the potential of the economic relations between Africa and France.
