The chancellery

The new Embassy of France in Kampala, was inaugurated in 1999. It is built on Nakasero hill, a business and residencial part of central Kampala, an area where you find lots of Ministries’headquarters, foreign missions and international organisations.
_ The red brick wall fence and the facades of the building are harmoniously integrated into the urban environment of a majority tile roofed buildings. The building of the embassy, which can be described as sober and modern architecture, regroups all the services following a functional plan of distribution. Wide halls insure a reception pleasant to the public, anterooms of the chancellery, the service of visas, ex economic expansion offices, and services of cooperation and cultural action of the embassy.
Some big trees break the geometry of the garden, which, although modest in the dimensions, remain nevertheless convenient to receptions and to events outdoors.
A studio, of very modern conception, with sight on gardens offers to the missionaries staying shortly in Kampala, a central and comfortable residence.
Three flats situated in the concession of the embassy, allow the security guards to accommodate their family and to be ready to get down to work in some minutes, security obliges.
The embassy counts about forty persons, (see organization chart).
The building of the embassy, by the importance of the granted investment, marks without ostentation the interest which France grants to Uganda.

The Ambassador’s residence.
The Ambassador’s residence, acquired in 1962, just after the opening on the French diplomatic representation in Uganda, is equally situated in the Nakasero quarters. It was renovated according to Kirkor Kalayicyan plans at the time of the construction the Embassy.
It is the residence of the Ambassador as well as a welcome place for important visitors. Its living rooms, a large verandah and a big compound are frequently used for receptions, official functions as well as for the francophone community in Uganda.
